The Bourgeoning Zombie Nation

Globally, the advent of technology and media has made it almost impossible to find the truth and most people depend on experts, media, peers, or even gossip for their dopamine hit when it comes to information. Others simply rely on their prejudices, jettisoning the time done at the assembly-line literacy program, where a certain cardboard was issued as a reward for the completion of the sentence.

The main purpose of education is defeated without the ability of the students to think independently and apply their education in society, rather than depend on society to carry them as a burden.

In Nigeria, so much, including governance, will improve if only the masses can change their mindset and reflect. But for the institutional weaponization of poverty, which makes beasts of most, seeking means to survive rather than devising an innovative solution that makes living a bliss. This is where lack of productivity plunged the populace into abject poverty.

Poverty can have a significant impact on the mind both in the short term and long term. In the short term, poverty can lead to increased stress and anxiety, as individuals may be unable to meet their basic needs or provide for their families. This can also lead to mental health issues such as depression and other mental illnesses.

In the long term, poverty can have a detrimental effect on cognitive development, as individuals may not have access to adequate nutrition, education and healthcare. This can lead to decreased cognitive function and lower educational achievement. Poverty can also lead to social isolation and decreased social support which can further exacerbate mental health issues.

We have seen growing traits of anger, hunger, and resentment leading to irrational behaviors that make most ripe for conscription into fascist mobs and expendable insurrection forces waiting to be exploited by political opportunists.

One may ask how this can be remedied for improvement and a few suggestions come to mind as follows;

— Open Mindedness: being willing to consider new ideas and perspectives without preconceived notions or biases.

— Creativity: the ability to think outside the box and come up with new and innovative ideas

— Critical Thinking : the ability to analyze and evaluate information in a logical and objective manner.

— Curiosity: the desire to learn land explore new ideas and concepts

— Flexibility: the ability to adapt to changing situations and perspectives.

— Confidence : the belief in one’s own abilities and ideas.

— Persistence : the willingness to continue pursuing an idea or goal despite obstackes or setbacks.

— Reflectiveness: the ability to pause and think about one’s own thoughts and actions.

— independence: the ability to think and act independently, without influence of others.

— Productivity: get busy doing something even if it is taking a walk, jogging or lifting dumbbells in the gym. Anything you can measure and reward yourself for the efforts based on the outcome.

Human beings are creatures of habits and if the above can be inculcated, independent thoughts will be highly improved with a renewed appetite for reading, learning, and unlearning to relearn.
