I had intended to title this “Why Wait Till You’re 70”, but as I pondered about the source of the inspiration, I realised it won’t do justice.
Last week, as a I reviewed the advisory and fantastic work done together with a marketing expert towards attracting our ideal customer, I felt a strong nudging to go through my previous chats with some of my smart friends.
One chat caught my attention, it was my chat with the highly distinguished Segun Awosanya aka Segalink.
He said;
“60% of my clients are in their 70s. The youngest are in their 50s. I don’t do business with people my age or younger. They mostly can’t afford it or understand my rationale”.
Someone might ask, does Segalink have a business? Yes, he’s the founder and CEO of Aliensmedia.
Now, as I kept reading our chat I couldn’t help but go back to read his statement above and the truism it holds.
Why? Because it brought many flash backs. Let me tell you a story of one case.
A friend took me visiting the office of someone he felt I needed to see. The importance for him was that he was certain he’d be interested in my expertise. Entering the office, lo and behold it was a man in his 60s. Owing to the relationship he has with my friend, he asked that we sit at a corner and not the reception, despite having people with him and apparently in a meeting.
Our turn came to state the reason for the visit. After my friends introduction, he sat up to listen to me and I went straight to the point. “I’m all about legacy success, I’m a specialist at providing advisory and the creation of the best visual proof and longevity of all your hard work. You can’t be the one sitting on that chair forever”.
Then another young man with us, who was part of the guys in the meeting we witnessed, commented. He quizzed me about the justification of all I had said with a splish-splash of sarcasm. You know that kind of ‘they just want money and would say a lot to get it from us mindset?’
The old man didn’t say a word but I was quick to notice his countenance. No sooner did the young man finish, he asked me to continue.
Today, from that man, I have the contact of a state Governor. He’d call me up and say, you’re free? Let’s go see the commissioner. I’m the only “stranger”, meaning non family, that visits his house. When he visits my house, my son never wants to see him leave. There’s a lot more…and yes! He hired me for my specialist service.
I called my marketing expert to say, we have a new theme. Executions remain the same but under the theme “Why Wait”. So like any book does to the reader, Segalink was worth reading.
Now I’d like to ask, why wait till you’re 70 to imbibe the mindset of building legacy success? The best time is now. And I am happy to show you how.
