Politicians pride themselves for understanding the weakness of most Nigerian youth based on the effectiveness of the age-long weaponization of poverty, which practically involves the manipulation and exploitation of impoverished communities for political, social, or economic gains.

Over 70% of Nigeria’s population falls between 18–35 and poverty (mostly the preponderance of the lack of productivity) impacts these numbers mostly consisting of sub-literates, largely indoctrinated, highly impressionable and emotionally driven individuals in search for meaning and role models.

Majority of whom are conscripted via peer pressure and fear of missing out into political factions, cult groups, rival mob groups, recruitment into criminal activities, increased involvement in violence, limited access to education, lack of employment opportunities, social exclusion and marginalization and mental health challenges.

It is believed in some quarters that sponsoring loud chants about the black sun with the right intensity and amplitude the world will be left no choice than to believe that the sun is black. But this is only in the imagination of the morbidly deluded. — @segalink 🍃

Owing to these and other limitations, majority of Nigerian youth are prey to the devices of politicians who have adopted several means of coercing them for use in their cause.

The following are ten identified and proven steps through which political appointees (Ministers) seduce the youth and weaponize them against their own interest;

  1. Raise a Social Media Army of mindless youth void of history, incapable of reasoning and put them on your payroll.
  2. Set the Agenda by giving your online mob a vague enemy to fight like an imaginary cabal, while demonizing the parastatals under you and the officers who have put in 20–30 years in the service of their nation.
  3. Any notable person who might see through your agenda to ingratiate yourself into the system must be demonized and blackmailed. Their objectivity must be condemned with belligerence no matter how factual. This is a critical mandate for your highly funded online mob.
  4. Create a loud campaign over nothing tangible and sell what the country already have to them as NEW. This would be easy once your social media army are noisy enough to force the falsehood upon others.
  5. Create so much problem just to build content and while solving the problem that was created based on your interference and self interest, let your mob sing your praises as the only star player on the team moving the country forward.
  6. No matter how corrupt you have been based on antecedents, none of your partisan mob would care provided their credit alerts are consistent and there is content to push.
  7. Outright lies will become a viral reality even if it doesn’t checkout. Anyone who points to the inconsistency must be accused of hating, jealous, envious or being a member of the cabal (corruption) fighting back.
  8. Partisan bloggers, faceless groups and commercial letter writers in your Social media army must prepare a sanctimonious letter in an open appeal to the President that your life is endangered as the only surviving patriot in town.
  9. If this pace is sustained and other political leaders, Civil Society Organizations, opposition parties etc keep looking the other way, you may have your way at the expense of the ruin of your Nation.
  10. You must congratulate yourself at this point for succeeding at putting your Personal interest above National interest and leaving a legacy as the catalyst of the destruction of your country in collusion with the ignorant, self genocidal and impoverished/partisan youth, who can’t think beyond their hunger.

The only way to avoid being the prey of politicians is to educate yourself beyond the indoctrination as proven by your certificate. Leader must address the weaponization of poverty via a multifaceted approach that involves social-economic development, improved access to quality education, job creation, social inclusion, and targeted intervention to address the pathology of poverty. This is how to mitigate the impact of the imbroglio on the Nigerian society and secure opportunities for a brighter future.

Poverty isn’t just about the lack of paper money but the lack of productivity. Once the source of your livelihood is dependent on the crumbs off the table of politicians, the meaning of life begins to elude you. Independent thought becomes a foreign idea and you become a statistic in the echo chamber of inanity. Gullibility in the majority perceives chains of slavery as fashionable bangles. — @segalink 🍃
